Re-mixes, Samples & new versions

Producers have been very busly lately venturing into the vaults of classic Northern and Modern soul. Everyones favourite Aussie Kylie Minouge features her re-make of Tobi Legend's casino classic 'Time will pass you by' on her new album. The song is produced by Mike Pickering former Mecca & Casino attendee and of course DJ at Manchester's hacienda. Is it sacrilige or just progress? I'll let you decide that one.
Add to that the fact that dance duo 'Shape-Shifters' have lined up for release later this month 'Lolas Theme' which samples Johnnie Taylor's classic Modern soul side 'What about my love' and is set to be the anthem across the Baleriacs this summer.  Along with KFC's continued use of classic soul sides for their "Soul Food" campaign it just goes to show what a force Soul music still is in todays market.
North Manchester Soul Club

Along with the likes of T.S.O.P at The Longfield Center Prestwich, North Manchester Soul Club at Bury Town Hall is providing the North West region with some fantastic soul events for the year 2004. The most recent three room event took place in June with another packed crowd across three rooms featuring DJs playing the very best in Northern and Modern Soul along with rare and newly discovered 6ts.
Now in its sixth year Bury Town Hall is once again proving to be a permanent fixture in the soul event calendar. With the resident DJ team of Neil Jones, Mark Bicknell, Mick Howard, Dave Booth & myself along with some fantastic guest DJs. Of course Bury Town Hall takes place every third friday throughout 2004 playing the very best in rare soul across two rooms. The next three room event at the venue takes place on Friday October 15th and is the annual all-nighter this year celebrating the sixth anniversary, a fantastic DJ line-up across three rooms is assured.

Life-line Allnighter

The Life-line allnighter is proving a big favourite with the Rare soul crowd. Held each month at Sheridan's in Dewsbury and featuring a resident DJ team including the likes of Andy Dyson, Tim Brown, Mick H and Butch. The Lifeline allnighter offers a different perspective on things playing some of the best in newly discovered 60's & 70's soul along with those forgotten oldies. Keep an eye out for the next event down there because if you're into something a bit different this is the night for you.

Barrington 'Bo' Henderson

Hot on the tails of his first solo release 'Best Kept Secret' the former lead man for The Temptations is making a swift return with his second offering 'BO-dacious'. An album that is ear-marked to be a bigger success than his first album is due to be released in the next few months. Keep checking the news section of my website for further up-dates on this and many other new releases.

Well folks that's about it for this issue, Iam now off to sun myself on a beach in the Canary islands. Hope you all have a great summer and I look forward to writing for you once again in the autumn.
