Barrington 'BO' Henderson Best Kept Secret - UGO BO Enterprises 2003
Barrington Henderson took the place of Theo Peoples mid way through recording of The Temptations 1997 Platinum selling album Phoenix Rising he stayed with the group for over five years and left under circumstances that are still clouded in the publics mind. It had been known that he was attempting to record a solo project along with his work with The Temptations and it is quite likely this was the reason he eventually left his position in the group.
His last days as a Temptation came with the subsequent release of his longly anticipated solo album
Best Kept Secret although a good effort for his debut solo album unfortunately it wasn't destined to be a hit without any major backing. But despite that the album still proved a big favourite among urban R&B fans in the States and even more so among Modern soul fans in the UK.
The album begins with a strong opening from
Right in da pocket with the majority of the album following the theme of this track. One of the plus points over this album is that Barrington managed to create his own style throughout this album and refuses to follow the trend he set whilst with The Temptations.
Ain't no doubt about it became a big favourite with the Modern soul crowd in the UK in 2003 and for good reason wtih Barrington once again showcasing his vocal talents to a well produced track that gives the album a classic yet fresh feel.
The album was produced in whole by Barrington and
Rickey Smith along with that Barrongton also wrote all the tracks for the album which gives the album a very personal feel.
Along with some great 'up-tempo Dancers' the album also showcases Barrington's sensitive side with sublime love songs such as
You Said Goodbye and the wonderful Sorry gives the listener the opportunity to realise Barrington's talents. Sorry follows Barrington in a variety of vocal forms from Barritone to first tenor which utilises his versatility in front of a microphone. This was evident from his leads on the Awsome album with The Temptations and is once again shown throughout this album.
Makin Love sounds like a throwback to the 80's and has a certain feel to the track that wouldn't be out of place with Alexander Oneal .
Other stand out tracks from the album include
Step Back , You're the lifeline and one of the highlights of the album Touch me .
All in all a fair effort for his debut album and one that has been well received through the Modern soul crowd in the UK. Yet the album does seem to have the problem of tracks being too similair. Although good in their own right the tracks seem to manifest into one without their being much distinction bar a few exceptions.
After the release of this album int he summer of 2003, Barrington is now preparing to release his second effort as a solo artist the aptly named '
BO-DACIOUS' which should be in stores across the States very soon.
